I have a silky cockeral who was hatched in a incubator (only one of 20 eggs to hatch)
As he was our only one & hatched in the winter he was spoilt rotten and kept indoors until he was 5 months old & started cock-a -doodling!!
He was handled daily and always enjoyed a cuddle.
We put him outside in the pen with our one silkie chick - they were both scared of each other and constantly run away from each other. He was still friendly with us and still let you pet him.
We bought 2 more silky young chicks, quarantined them for a month, by which time it became apparent that only one was a chick!!
So the hen went in the pen and the other went back to auction!!
Since the introduction of the new hen our cockeral has doted on her and follows her around all day-she has now turned broody and has been sat on eggs for approx. 2 weeks now.
The problem is since the new hen went in, our rooster has turned aggressive towards us!!!
Everytime we go in to feed him he rears up and flies at us.
Is this normal behaviour?? Is he just protecting his new bird??
Can we do anything to make him friendly again??
Thanks for any advice
