I haven't posted in about a year but I need to know what people personally think about sillkie bantams because we just moved our 6 rhode island reds into a new and bigger coop and were thinking about getting about 2 more chickens we wanted a "specialty" breed and I saw those and fell in love!! but the only thing is my mom does NOT want chicks she wants 6 month olds because then we wont have to buy medicated food and on that topic do you actually need medicated food for chicks or no? so what do you think chicks or 6 month olds? and if i were to get chicks what kind of housing would I need in order to raise them and yes I know I have alot of questions but i am not done lol my last questions are what hatchery would be dependable for silkie chicks and would a hatchery let me order like say one chick of one kind and one of another kind or do i have to get more than one of each? PLEASE HELP!!!!!

i have silkies i raised them since chicks .. chicks would be better to get so you can get them use to people like i did .. 6 month olds could be better to so they can go into the coop with your older birds but if you want them for eggs don't get silkies .. silkies don't lay many eggs people say around 100 a year but they can lay more or less depends on the bird and their living area .. my silkie hen started laying around a month ago and she is now a year old .. my chicks stay inside my house with a heat lamp and i use medicated chick starter because people say it can help their immune system or something like that and i don't buy from hatchery's so i have no clue and they wont be to good of quality
