I have two hens who that will only nest in one certain nest. These past few weeks they have been nesting at the same time, in the same nest!?! Is this normal? I worry about them because we are mid-90s when they are doing this. Has this happened with anyone else?

Yep, all the time. It's completely normal.

While it is possible for hens to lay at any time of the day (and some of mine will lay at 4pm!), the majority of laying happens before 10am. The likelihood that they would have to 'go' at the same time is actually quite high.

And the reason they pile into the same nest box? Because it's the better one! In their little heads, they think that box is superior to the others. So none of them will lower themselves to use the inferior boxes around it!

The favourite box can change from time to time too - next week they might avoid it like the plague. Who knows what's going through their heads, they are crazy little critters!
