Please explain to me again why we have to dedicate 4ft of coop space per chicken?

Apparently my 22 chickens think its all chickens in 4ft, not 4ft per chicken!

They were looking at me like I was weird for taking their pic! As if being piled into the same tiny area was perfectly normal lol.

Mine do the same thing, all at one end of the roost all squished together.
By the way, very nice variety of chickens!

Mine always try to hide their faces under each others wings. They hide there face under my arm too and go to sleep.
