Silly Lily and we have eggs!

Lily the Welsummer started crouching just as we were getting ready to leave for a week's vacation.

We had friends chicken sitting while we were gone but I hoped she would wait to start laying until mommy...I mean until I got home.

Not only did she not wait, neither did Ruby the RIR! They were just over 21 weeks old. (Olive the EE hasn't started yet)

This is what our friends collected the week we were gone:

A few days ago I was outside, bent over taking some pictures of the garden bounty...

...and someone decides to fly up onto my back, crawl up to my shoulder and make themselves comfortable!

I rang the doorbell to get my husband's attention so he could grab the camera. This was a couple seconds before Lily decided to peck me HARD on the cheek. OUCH.

And please excuse the sweaty, messy hair!

Kathy - Those are amazing pics. My Wilma the Welsummer just gave us her first egg yesterday. Looks very much like your egg.

About the only thing cuter than a baby chick, at least in my book, is the first eggs they lay! There's just something so darling about a pullet egg. I get all squeely and giggly!!
