Hello all! Did you previously join my hatch-a-long? February was such a long time ago. And now that summer has ended and we are almost into proper fall, I have decided to open up my own story thread. It's been a long time friends!
In February, we were dealing with about 20 or so, hens on the property. Add the chicks that hatched from the February hatch-a-long and the previous New Year's Day hatch along and we were looking at close to 50 chickens. Now, as we are a homestead, we were quickly victims of chicken math. I was unable to sell any chicks
BUT! My heart and yard space is big, so I kept as many as I could for as long as I could.
Unfortunately, due to a fence falling, our neighbor quickly realized we had an abundance of roosters, so the boys were sent away to the freezer once they started singing. As for the girls - once they began to lay, we were overflowing with eggs!! If you've talked to me previously, you'd know that I live with my sweet parents. Momma began hustling at work and bam! We had a list of weekly egg buyers. (Granting me a smooth little gift every two weeks for the wedding fund OR a decent dinner at the Sizzler.)
But, like all good things, this too has now come to an end. We have downsized considerably - from 50 chickens of assorted sex and breed to now, our two lovely and gentle Black Australops. With the sale of my many BEAUTIFUL hens, we have padded our wedding budget, but at WHAT COST?! (At the cost of me tearing up after each and every poultry sale because I hatched the darn birds in my room goshdarnit! I watched them be born!) So, in light of all that - here is my ode to my beautiful birds and to provide all of yous with our current wedding news.
We have booked - our venue, photographer, officiant and DJ! But, we recently lost our venue due to construction, so we are back on the hunt again. My wedding dress has been made and is currently in storage. YAY!!! I have pictures and I have shown my coworkers over and over again. What will happen to us next? Who knows... but if you read this much, thank you! Fluffy butt tax please.
