okay, so i am still not sure if i have a male and female pekin duck but i am ASSUMING based on behaviors one male and one female. they are about 5 weeks.

i am super scared for them to start mating as I heard it can get brutle??? anyway to prepare for this. when will it start??

My male and female started mating when they were around 5 months old. It has been pretty mild. He has never pulled out her feathers or hurt her.

What do their voices sound like? Ducks quack; drakes make a raspy, frog-like sound.

And don't be nervous about them breeding! Just observe their behavior: if you see your hen looking a little ragged (i.e bald spots) just put up a simple chicken wire barrier and give them some time away from each other. Some drakes are real randy and need to be in time out for most of the season: some drakes are very gentlemanly and never hurt their hens.

the one sounds suuuuuuuuuuper raspy, and the other is like supppppppppppper high pitch. The super raspy duck is smaller than the super high pitch duck though... Not super if that matters? lol.

Around 4 months probably won't be fertile then. Is one quacking and one rasping? Do they have swim water? Just keep an eye on them. I had a drake that was gentle with one duck but crazy on the rest of them. Just depends on the drake. You need to have a drake jail to put him in if he gets too crazy. If you see missing feathers on the females neck you will want to give her a break. Also consider more females.

You can have small drakes! Size is not necessarily a deciding factor.

If it makes you feel better, my ducks didn't reach sexual maturity until they were .... hm, I think six or seven months old? But they were Mallards. Depends on the duck, I think!
