Are there any breeds of chickens that do not require supplementary feeding and will meet their nutritional needs solely by free rangin? I'm specifically curious bout laying hens...

Not that I know of. Any bird you get is going to need feed, no matter if you free range them. Some great free rangers are Old English Games, but those are far and few inbetween.
