silly question....

Does she have a rooster ? If she has a rooster they are probably fertile . Has she ever hatched any of her eggs before ? It takes 21 days of turning, managing temp and humidity. Do you have a hygometer to mrasure humididty?

It's is a fun experience for kids if your willing to put in the time managing the hatch.

Do you have a brooder box and then a coop to put them in when they hatch , so you can raise them ? Go to the Learning center on this site and you will see alot of information that will be helpful to you.

You could try it but prepare your son because there is a good chance they won't hatch. It can be hard to keep the proper temp and humidity.

Orschlens sells incubators I'm thinking $40 to $50.

I have a broody hen but no fertile eggs.

so one final question....

i have set up the chick box and it is steady at 100*, for humidity---i have a cake pan and some mesh wire, should i place the mesh wire ontop of the pan filled with water and place the eggs on the mesh, or should i just have the pan with water sitting next to the eggs?

Can you post a picture of your setup so far? Here's hoping for a great hatch. If one of your hens becomes broody in the meantime, maybe you can slip the eggs under her and she may finish the job... maybe...

ok, so this is what i rigged up...

i basically used my chick box, which is about 1.5ftx1.5x2 feet deep with a 100 w bulb in it. I used a box to get the eggs closer to the light. I have a pie dish half full of warm water with a trivet on top of it which is where the eggs are laying. The thermometer is reading right around 100*

Is that box not enclosed? If not, the humidity isn't gong to be very high under the light there and will equiliberate with the room. Plus, unless you have your house set at the same temp day and night, there may be a bit too much fluxuation in temps.

When I was little, I made a cardboard box with a clear lid on it with lamp over head. Got half my eggs to hatch from it, but sadily, due to swaying temps, had to cull half of the half I hatched because of leg problems.
