This has also happened to me. I only have Silver Appleyard ducks, and one of these 'darkies' hatched out. All duck breeds come from Mallards. I believe that it is a genetic throw back, so to speak...

Mrs. Turbo, bantam silver appleyards are not even remotely genetically related to the original large appleyards. The yellow down with black Mohawk is the true genotype for the breed. The other duckling there has wild type down, will most likely come out Rouen coloured but could come out snowy I think like the banter appleyards.
