I am putting the other eggs in an incubator. Something is seriously wrong with that hen so I am getting rid of her.

What breed is your hen? I hear that some breeds and new broodies can do that to chicks unfortunately. But I hope all the other eggs hatch for you!

Buff Orpington. She was sweet and a really good mother then its like she just snapped. This pic is when she WASN'T setting. She would run in circles squawking all fluffed up. She did that for like two months

Hmmm...That's pretty strange and I've never heard of that behavior before. Though its probably a good decision to get rid of her.

Hey! Everything's happening here

AHHHH my momma hen just rejected her chick and pecked her head open exposing her scalp. It was bleeding all over. It was still wet and peeping and i had to kill it cause it wouldn't live. I am afraid she will kill the rest!

Oh no! I'm sorry, I can only imagine what it must have been like for you (Let alone the poor wee chick). I hope you don't have anything like this happen again- and the rest of the chicks survive

The worst part was when I touched the chick's head the rest of the skin slid almost off of the skull.
