I had heard that you can breed the silver to a golden variety of a breed and they will produce both colors true to variety.

For example, a pen of silver and golden sebrights will produce both true silvers and true goldens.

Is this correct? Is there any problems or advantages to this type of breeding?

No, this is not correct in the case of sebrights. If you crossed a Silver rooster to a Gold hen, it would result in a sex-link (kind of) cross. Any hens would be silver like the dad and any roosters would be an off mix of the two colors. Same thing vice versa too. If any other more experienced experts see this, please correct if needed.
