Silver Laced Wyandotte feathering

I think of hatchery stock as a stepping stone. it helps you to find what breeds you like for what reasons and if coloring is important to you, then you can seek out better quality birds once you decide what breeds you like. I found my first year, buff orps were not the breed to have. I had 5 buffs and 1 silver laced. the silver laced was the only bird that did not get attacked by hawks (my theory, they blended into the landscape better), so I then purchased blue laced reds, best quality I could find at the time, these blend in even better.

I had this hatchery girl and she was so gorgeous that I just had to get into the breed. This was a great stepping stone to me.

Thank you. She was from Meyer hatchery.
These birds look pretty around my farm free ranging and are good layers. They may not fit the standard but that is not why I have them. I want eye candy and producers.
I have a large order in with Meyer again this year for more.

After seeing breeder show quality slw's I decided I seriously wanted some of these gorgeous birds in my yard...but when I started looking for them locally, I couldn't find any with the real crisp pretty lacing. Most of what I found were almost totally black with very little lacing. So, now I am saving to get some from either Paul's in Florida or Foley's in Kentucky. I am sort of embarassed by how badly I want these birds! My husband and sons think I am crazy...

I am just waiting for the holidays to be over, then I have to help my mom move in early January, then I can start another run/coop for some of these beautiful birds.
