Hello,

We recently started raising chicks. One of our chicks is a Silver-Laced Wyandotte. We are pretty sure all of the other chicks we have are hens, but this one has befuddled us. The chick will be 5 weeks on Wednesday, though in the photos it was just over 4 weeks old. We purchased our chicks from our local Agway Country Store.

Does anyone have thoughts on the gender of this chick? I know it is still a little early. But, we're really curious. We named the Chick Ash as we figured the name could go either way. Ash is much smaller than the other chicks we brought home at the same time.

Wyandottes have a rose comb. It's a unique structure, if you're not used to seeing it, it can be confusing. This bird looks female to me. Her wattles are also pretty small.

If you review this site for Wyandottes of all different ages, male, and female, you will feel more confident about this bird's gender. 6-8 weeks we can probably be definitive with pictures from that age.

Thank you! I thought it might be early, but I appreciate your thoughts. I am starting to think Ash may be a hen, which would be ideal as she was the one of my 12 that I was most excited to have (though she's not the sweetest LOL).
