they’re about 3 months old. The whiter one barely has any kind of comb but the darker one has the rose comb and is developing wattles.

The darker one has multiple indicators for cockerel. Comb and wattle development is on the early side plus the wing has the white patch. Your other one looks like a pullet, just poorly laced.

Your darker one is definitely a cockerel.

The lighter one... the lace pattern says boy, but the comb and waddles do not say that... so maybe it just isn't good quality lacing.

I paused too at that hint of patch on her wing but there's no "cape" (the black back feathers just below the neck has pattern in it for her). I think she's just poorly marked.

They wouldn't have adult patterning as juveniles but her breast should look like her back. So, she won't look like the chicken models in the books but she will have lacing on her back.
