Silver-laced wyandottes

Thanks for the photos Katy. I just got in from feeding and actually now that I have seen your pics it is obvious that I have a roo and a pullet. I guess I will have to start with them and then keep the original rooster for a couple of generations. Buddy tells me this particular line is very conisistent and has been used in many shows and does very well. These SLW could wind up being my favorite breed.

Glad you have one of each!

I know I sure am happy with how these are turning out. My younger ones from the Turbos are going to be nice too....they're very round and their lacing is nice too.

Yes, they're friendly and aren't mean at all. All my wyandottes, no matter the color, really are sweet birds.

I hatched some Wyandottes from Katy and they are all sweeties! They are much friendlier than my Orpingtons were...actually than my Orpingtons are.

Katy,

Do you have any pictures of the SLW's as they were growing up? I have 3 right now that are about 6 weeks and they're not even close to showing the wonderful patterning that yours have.

Here's one of my hens I photographed today:

I think this one is a Rooster:

Are there any hope for mine to look like SLW's are supposed to? I didn't know they were so hard to get ones that have that patterning like advertised.

BTW yours are SOOOOO pretty. I am very jealous. I would also be interested in eggs or peeps from your stock if mine don't turn out like them.

Dan,

mine looked just like yours growing up so they will get better color nothing like the OP birds if you got hatchry stock like I did, but they will add some color to the coop.

here is my hen that is about four months old and she looked like yours forever so I did not think she would even look anything like a SLW.... but you can tell what she is trying to be lol

It seemed like she changed really fast over night but it took forever to get there.

Thanks for the reassurance trinitymare! I was so worried that I'd have SLW's that didn't look like SLW's !

I'll revert back to patiently waiting!

BTW what are "OP birds?" I know what hatchery stock is, but I haven't come accross "OP" yet. I'm still new with all this chicken stuff.

Sorry Dan,

I was lazy and used OP in place of "original posters" birds, as in the person who started the thred.

They are really nice birds!

Here is a picture of her 6-2-09 and I thought that was about as good as she was going to do.

she is around three months old.

So if you look at the picture from today I posted a huge change....
