These are my 4 week old Silver Laced Wyondotte chicks and I'm wondering if they are pullets, cockerel, or it's too early to tell. Please also tell me what makes them look like either sex as I'm totally new to having chickens and want to learn. Thank you.

I agree with niff56. I think it is still to early to tell the gender. All we can really do is guess at this age. The best age to tell the gender of your chickens is 6-9 weeks. Sometimes later depending on the chicken.

If I had to guess, I'm thinking both roosters. I could be wrong though.

I'm curious as to why they both look like roosters. I'm new to chickens so I'm clueless about the different signs between pullets and cockerels. I was hoping to at least have one of each as I wouldn't be able to keep two roosters

. I hope they do have some major changes and start looking girly soon.

At this age most people go by the combs. At this age if it is large and red, it usually means boy. But if it's small and yellow looking in color, it is usually a pullet.

When the chicken gets to be about 6-8 weeks of age you can tell the gender by the feathers. The boys usually have this long greasy looking feathers starting around their neck and just above their tail. Their tails also start to look long and full. The girls usually have small tails, small combs, and no hackle feathers (the long this feathers around the neck and tail).
