I'm incredibly interested in trying to learn more about how the genetics of chickens interact with the various species of pheasants. I've noticed how in my area there is a lot of extra silver pheasant hens and people have more hens than they know what to do with and males are actually a little less common to find. I also want do research and document crest development, feather patterning, overall F1 fertility in males, and if I can get past F1 like people have with ringneck chicken crosses. Far more people in my area and outside of it breed silver pheasants rather than ringnecks so I'm not worried about taking from the captive populations. I'd only have 2 silver pheasant hens at most in hopes to cross them to one of my roosters but I'm rather concerned about aggression from the females. Another concern I originally had was involving fertility, but all the cases regarding silver pheasant chicks crosses resulting in undeveloped eggs was because they had used male silver pheasants. I genuinely wonder if it's true that pheasant hens crossed to chicken roosters can result in better fertility as I've read in the past. I know I'm realistically going to offend well over half the people who keep pheasants but I'd just like to point out that if mix breeding different species of animals is so terrible than explain mules. If you happen to be mad that I'm trying this then kiss my tail feathers
If anyone is also interested in learning more about how pheasant chicken hybrids work than I'll gladly explain and show examples of other's successful attempts!
I'm interested to see what people have to say regarding silver pheasant hens in comparison to the males as I know they can be veryyy aggressive. I'm worried silver pheasant hens would be certain death for a rooster that would be in a coop with them.
