Hi,
I recently got a Silver Spangled Hamburg chick from McMurray hatchery. I think he is a roo because that is all they had available for that shipment, so I would guess that they gave away the extra males they had left. I also have Black Australorps, some Red and Black stars for egg layers, and some Pioneers for meat. Has anyone tried crossing these breed with a Silver Spangled Hamburg? Any thoughts on whether they would make good hybrids?

I've crossed my Hamburgs with Fayoumi and barred rocks. They make excellent, hardy eggs layers. Because Hamburgs and Hamburg crosses are smaller and don't carry extra weight, not particularly good for meat production. Great on the feed bill though. They fly, can get out of tight places, are independent and I love them. Had for 40 plus years.

I wish people would share too! I have a Hamburg cross that is supposed to hatch today and I too was curious. I don’t know who the dad is but it will be obvious if it’s my salmon favorelle! Did you try it?
