I have been doing some research on silver spangle hamburgs. Everything I have found says that they lay small eggs. Does anyone have any, and are they worth keeping if I am looking for peak egg production? I am thinking about trying to trade them at the local feed store for americana chicks. Thanks.

thanks. bad layers and they fly far with their wings clipped. Sounds like a good idea to trade them in for some ladies who lay colored eggs.

I love mine. They are beautiful and they lay really well. Maybe they just feel the love and reward me.

Mine do fly around but that doesn't bother me. They can be flighty but we can hold all of ours.

If I did not live in a residential neighborhood I would not mind the flying, but I can not attract attention. We are outlaws.

My husband brought me 5 Silver Spangleds, of unknown age. They had never been handled. Mine are anti social, though getting better over time. I get 1-2 eggs a day from them and yes they are small. In our flock, these 5 birds will be the first to be culled in fall. They are just downright mean, probably from previous owner.

I have 5 Hamburg hens ( in addition to Lakenvelders, Orps and Phoenix)-very very noisy, consistant layers of small to medium eggs and are extremely flighty. They are pleasant enough, very very curious and interested in whatever you are doing--but boy can they fly high! They are so beautiful but I too would think twice about getting them again.

My desicion is made. They go to the feed store on Monday. I hope they still have americanas to trade. thanks for all the help
