I'm sure this is asked/answered often, but I just want to clarify, based on what I've read.

I have a simple turner. The eggs go small end down, and large end up in the turner, correct? Is there ever a need to rotate, turn, or molest these eggs once they are in the turner? I just received some Wheaten Marans eggs that I very much want to have a good hatch from. I've had the incubator stabilizing for about 24 hours. The eggs shipper advised to let the eggs rest for at least one day before placing in incubator.

Thanks, etc.

Yes, shipped eggs should rest for 24 before incubating and they should be candled so you can verify the condition of the air cells. If they are detached many people don't turn for the first couple of days and they hatch them in cut down cartons. The only reason for rotating the eggs once in the turner is if you have warm/cool spots in the bator. Rotating them periodically just averages out the temps of these warmer/cooler areas.

Yep, large end up.

Thank you for the info. I need to break down and buy a good egg candler. I've used the homemade little flashlight things, the light bulb tricks, etc and can never tell much. On top of that, I generally incubate dark eggs, which seem harder.

I mostly try to do all I can and not screw up too much, then cross my fingers.

Is is spring there yet? Sure is here, 80 and brewing T-storms again in Oklahoma.

Holy cow, you're in Meeker! I'm east of Sparks, between Prague and Stroud. Got any pullets you wanna trade? I just gave away two beautiful Black Copper Marans roosters. I'm after big, brown eggs. The Wheaten and Welsummer eggs I'm putting in are real beauties. From a guy on Ebay (I know, no jokes) named FarmerGeorge in New Jersey. He seems to know what he's doing.

I'm always looking for something to trade. I'm hatching a lot of Rhode Island Reds and Buff Orpingtons right now. My only pullets are Black Australorps. They won't be laying until August. I would love to work out a trade for some of those Welsummer pullets. I'll have Australorps, RIR's and Buff Orpingtons.

Well, keep your fingers crossed. Not only for the hatch, but for extra pullets.
