So I have 4 week old chicks. Had them for 3 weeks now, and yes my first time. My husband is currently building a 10' x 10' run for them (and 2 -4 month old ducks I have). We also just got a nice chicken coop so they can hang outside while the large pen is being built. So today is the first day they are outside. I put them all inside their house, and slowly watched them go outside, figuring out the ramp. I am home now for lunch, had to go outside to check them out and they are still outside. I put one back in the house and she slid down the ramp. My question, do they know to climb the ramp to go back inside tonight? Or do I have to put them in there and lock them in there which I really don't want to do. And today would be early like 5 PM cause I won't be home tonight .

You might have to put them in at night a few times to show them.

Is the ramp to steep ? Maybe put something under the end of it so it’s an easier climb for them .

A picture would really help

That is a really steep/ tall ramp.

You will need to put them in at night ... and maybe make the ramp not so scary for them

I can't tell from looking at the pic. Is the ramp just a smooth board? If so, you should either nail/screw some cleats to it, about every 6", or perhaps cut some saw kerfs into it every inch or two.
Not smooth. Has small raised lines every 2 inches.

Well yesterday afternoon I placed bricks under the ramp. Put some food up the ramp also. They still didn't seem interested. Late last night when I got home my daughter and I put them into the house to sleep and I let them out this morning. They will eventually do this themselves right?
