I want to add some mulch around some sweet flag I added for inside my ducks cage and around the edge for some accent. Will mulch hurt my ducks? I'll be keeping my 2 Mandarins and one Pheasant mainly in this cage.

I've used shredded pine around my ducks with no ill effects.

Hmm, Ive used cedar bedding shavings with all my ducks with still no affect. But im just unsure with mulch because I have no expirence with it whats so ever.....

If its bothering them, what are the signs I would be looking for?

And I was looking into the reddish brown color mulch.

I use pine shavings, too, but they are not particularly aromatic.

I have read that cedar can cause problems. But I am not terribly surprised you have seen none. It may be that some ducks are more sensitive than others.

Shredded leaves are a good mulch. I have used duck bedding (used shavings) for mulch.

If you use a woody mulch, you just don't want to work it into the root zone of the soil because it could steal nitrogen from the plant and kill it.
