I may set another nest after the first of April, a larger clutch this time, and see if I can get a better hatch rate.
cool where you gonna put all these chicks. lol You put them in with your grown chickens?
Gotta ask ya a ? and see what you think. My chickens the grown ones, are pulling the feathers out of the rooster AGAIN! UGHHH they have ONLY been in the pen for 1 day without free ranging due to it raining. You know how large the pen is, they get fed twice a day, they also get boss and they are pulling his feathers out AGAIN. WHY would they be doing this? Their feed is 16% protein plus the boss they get so it can't be a protein issue and they have PLENTY of space. Don't know WHY they keep doing this.

Eek, bullying problems! Have they drawn any blood?

Yep...you know me..everyone flocks together. A flock that plays together, stays together.

I just don't know about your flock...first you had feather wearing on the hens when the flock ratio was alright and now you have hens that are pulling feathers....are they eating them? Feathers seem to be an issue here. How about you hang some bird seed suet cakes in your coop and run and see if it helps them get the fats and proteins they are missing. Could be some kind of nutrient deficiency, though I don't see how. Have you checked them for lice or mites? Maybe even gave them a spring tonic(castor oil, garlic, ginger root, pumpkin seeds?) as a purge for worms?

Feather picking drives me crazy. If I have a hen picking feathers I feed them hard boiled eggs for 2 days. And then just watch to see what happens. If she continues to pick feathers, I invite her to dinner! Problem solved......

To try to prevent the problem from beginning I keep grit and ground oyster shell available at all times.
