Simulated Natural Nest Incubation~Experiment #1 So it begins....

Ants attacking and killing newly hatched reptiles is not an uncommon catastrophe among herpephiles who propagate them. What some have done is raise the incubator/brooder up on legs set in small containers of water, or, more commonly, (motor) oil. I like to put mine on old hockey pucks (yes, I have them lying around) smeared with Tanglefoot. I hate ants, and the mere thought of them biting and killing my babies drives me bonkers. I definitely would do something drastic and effective. Will be watching for your hatch.

Prayers for everyone to successfully hatch!!

I probably did this at the wrong time, here at the end of all things, but I was so curious as to if the float test would work....so I tried it. It works! All three eggs have chicks squirming in there. I put the eggs back the way I found them and hope they will settle back down to where they were before. It was so neat to see those signs of life. I did note that #7 took a little longer than 11 and 6 to move...maybe not as active of a chick or a little behind in development? Not sure.

Lock down BF.....I'm soooooooooooo excited! Candled mine last night......got 12 out of 18 shipped eggs.........gonna candle again tomorrow........Fingers crossed and prayers coming your way! Cute little buggers!

Hey, Sis!

Thanks to everyone who is cheering on the hatch..I really appreciate it! I've got a slight problem, though, that may complicate things.....I've got 4 babies arriving tomorrow instead of 3. My first grandchild will be arriving tomorrow as they are inducing labor and, due to some complicated transportation problems, I may be gone from home for half the day and have to take the nest with me and try to maintain heat. Not sure how that will all work out....

Could use prayers all the way around and for all babies concerned...and maybe one for the new grandma...it will be some kind of day.

thoughts are with you for all babies..

I got my third GK coming in May and it never gets easier, I worry no matter how my DIL sailed through the first two.. I've just come to the conclusion its who we are and worry is what us Moms and Grandmoms do.
