Few days ago I tried to spot a bird which was singing a beautiful bird song. Looked for a while without success, figured it must be hidden in one our trees.
Today while collecting eggs I heard the same song and noticed that it was coming from my 8 month old Buff Orpington which began laying three days ago.
Before the onset of laying eggs she made normal chicken sounds.
Is it possible that the hormonal changes related to laying eggs change her sounds ?
How common is it for chickens to sound like a song bird ?

I will try to record her and post it.

That's so cool! I have a chicken that sounds a lot like that, but I'm pretty sure she is growling. I base that on the fact that she is stomping her feet or pecking at someone when she's making the noise. :lau
LOL We never really know hu? They trill too and I think they are content when they are making these noises. They make so many different sounds ! A member here is actually recording all the different sounds and possible meanings but I cant remember who it is.
