Hi all, I love our eggs -we are getting about 7/day from our 8 ladies. Here is my ?
I know that the little brown/red spots inside the eggs are ok but what does it mean? Is it a deficiency? Is it likely to stop at some point?
I alwyas remove the spot before using but though it's gross I'm not too worried. I would just be awkward giving them to friends this way. any thought?
thanks. juice

Do you have a rooster? I asked that same question to a gal at the feed store and she told me it is because the eggs are fertile.

thanks I'll look at the site. but no, i don't have a rooster

You can get blood spots with or without a rooster. He has nothing to do with it.

The reason you don't often see blood/meat spots in store bought eggs is because they are candled before being packaged. The ones that show the blood spots are diverted to be sold to make animal feed.

I read the link you posted about the bloodspot. I know I find blood spots in my eggs frequently and now if someone I sell eggs to asks me I have the correct answer. Thanks for setting me straight. Seems everyday I learn something new on BYC. I love this forum!
