Hello!
I’m thinking of getting a male to add to my flock of three female Pekins.
I have a small homestead in the city so my amount of animals is limited, but four wouldn’t be too bad, and I would like to sell hatching eggs.
But I would only be able to get one.
In order to avoid the small order fees, I would share an order with my friend who also has a homestead, but I would be raising the one duckling alone.
I’ve heard that this is not ideal as they get very lonely. I’m wondering though if I could do this but then introduce the duckling to the rest of my flock at an early age to minimize loneliness?
Just wondering! Thank you in advance :)

In order to keep the duckling from imprinting on you, it might be a good idea to provide it with a mirror for 'company'.

My first duck ended up being a lone drake for three months before I was able to successfully hatch more. I work crazy hours and am only off a day here and there. He did imprint on me but I had him in a clear tote and I left him in my living room. He had a stuffed toy that he still is attached to over a year later but he imprinted on my dog too. They were best buds until the hormones kicked in. He is my friendliest duck and I think because of the dog he wasn’t so lonely. But if you are home more and can introduce him to other ducks but just make sure he is safe and kept separate so they cannot get him then it could work. I will warn though my duck is WEIRD. Haha
