my plymouth and rhode island red have started laying eggs, it's been about two weeks and they still only lay one egg each a day. when will they start to lay more?

The average is an egg every 26 hours, so there will be days they don't lay at all. While they are new layers, you will probably see one most days but as they get older, it may ease off some to only 3-4 a week. Additionally, when the days get shorter in the winter they will lay less often.
