Sitting duck eats own egg?

A couple of days ago i checked in the duck nesting box, where my muscovy is sitting at the moment, and found that one egg was missing.
The nest box area is very safe and secure, so i dont think any wild animals took it.

Has anyone had eggs go missing before?
Is it possible mum duck ate her own egg?

I have seen my pekin duck eat eggs that were cracked in the nest.

and kind of gross- but its a good way for them to get some nourishment while they are sitting.
