Hey everyone. Extremely new to raising chickens, in fact this is my first go at it. I got a mix from a local store... nearest I've been able to figure out is that I have a barred rock, two speckled sussex, a golden laced wyandotte.. the two red ones I'm a little unsure. They could be new hampshire, rhode island red, or possibly something else? I can try to get some pictures of just them but I was wondering if any of you could shed some light on it for me. :)

Hi, and welcome to BYC!

Your red birds look like Production Reds to me, which is a commercial variety that carries a lot of Rhode Island Red blood. They don't have the body type or mahogany feather color of real RIR, but are nice red birds that lay lots of nice brown eggs.

I can't tell what breed it is, but the black bird with its head sticking out under the branch on the left hand side of the photo is a cockerel.

I just wasn't sure, there are so many breeds. Lol Most rhode islands and others ive seen seem pretty solid red and when their feathers started coming in the spotty and striped pattern became more prominent. They are sweet little things.

Ah! That one with the red comb? I was wondering about it. That's the one I've determined to be golden laced wyandotte. Very pretty but it likes to bite and peck at me, very aggressive. I have had my eye on it but figured it was still too early tell.
