My chicks are two months old and today they experienced their first real rainfall. Their options for dealing with the rain included:
  • They could hang out inside the coop
  • They could hang out under the coop
  • They could hang out in the outdoor run, underneath the corrugated roofing
  • They could stand, exposed, in the pelting rain, beeping piteously for us to come and do something about it.
Three guesses as to which option they chose :)

That's quite funny lol!

Lol - the Three Muskateers (I name my flocks) would stand as straight and as tall as they could under a bush, getting wet. Not that far from them was the COVERED patio, and up the stairs was the COVERED deck, and a few more feet was total protection - all four sides - from the rain. *eye roll*

The one that makes me laugh is the lone explorer who would get DRENCHED, come to the front door which means he would go under the COVERED porch, knock on the door, and then bolt back into the rain to wait just off the porch. When I would come out, he'd say pick me up, but he didn't want to come to a DRY place for me to pick him up. He wanted a little game of chase in the rain. Mommy Sara doesn't play that game. So he'd come back and EVENTUALLY let me pick him up. Sometimes. There's a chair on the covered porch he could hide under. Nope. He wouldn't do that. *eye roll*

I had to save 10 babies whose mother was such a hen once. Everytime something like this happens, I think back to one of the old Yosemite Sam cartoons as I refer to my chu as retarded little feathered dragons. Fortunately some chickens are smarter than others, and most of mine won't just stand in the rain.
