I just picked up a rooster from a friend, he is banty size, looks to be a dUccle cross or poor purebred and has six toes not counting his spurs... is that normal??? I've never seen a six toed chicken, but never really paid attention...

also we got a RIR roo, 8 weeks, when should we butcher him? he's intended for the dinner plate eventually

normal if he's a cross of silkie/ dorking... they sometimes do have 6 toes.

We usually leave our chicken till 6 months for butchering.

there is nothing silki-ish about him and it's a stretch to imagine he has any dorking in him... I'll have to get pics...

ETA: you're right, my husband just reminded me he has a walnut comb like this and that pic looks like a silkie, so he must have some silkie in him? I am so not educated about chickens... but otherwise he looks completely like a dUccle or w/e they're called...

PICS!! Then send it to Debi!
ETA: The picture, not the bird. She's digitally overcompensated, see, and all her avies have multiple digits.
