I have four six week old Ameraucana pullets. Two have been making nests in their bedding and laying there scratching around just like my adult chickens do before laying an egg. I know this is way too early for that. Any ideas as to why they would behave like this? To be fair, we just moved them from their brooder inside to outside on the covered porch. I’ve only seen this behavior since the move. Stress induced?

I doubt they're making nests. My chickens, both young and old, like to scratch out little resting areas on the ground (especially in hot weather, as the ground is cool - or in case of cooler weather, in the path of a sunbeam) and lie down for a bit.

Thank you. From being inside cool to front porch hot, that’s likely the case. I was just being a worrier I guess.

Probably trying to make a dust bath.
