size of door

hi guys I have an out building 8by 8 ft that I converted into a chicken coop. my question is how big should I make there door. it has a big door for me to walk through and 2 windows. but I need a small door for them I don't like leaving the main door open we get a lot of rain here I spent a lot of money on this building so I don't want it to get wet inside. my girls love it. thanks

The door doesn't need to be more than 10-12 inches wide and 16" tall

What size are your chickens? Our little doors are 8" square. This is for our Rhode Island Red, Barred Rock, Speckled Sussex.... they easily hop in and out. ---if you have banties, it could be smaller.

I have Easter eggers and 2 Swedish flower roosters that live next door to hens eventually they or 1 will be with the girls. thanks I am going to work on the door this weekend.

I went with 14 by 17....can be a traffic jam, or deliberate blocking of egress especially when integrating new birds.

Good idea--I should mention that I have 2 little doorways, so that isn't as much of an issue. And I only have 4 chickens.

My door is 10"x12". It's only wide enough for one bird to get in and out at a time, seems like they've worked it out. The big rush is when I open it in the morning.
