Hey there!

I purchased this little cutie yesterday, and was told it was about 3-4 days old. Very sweet, sizzle silkie that really enjoys attention. It’s definitely the right size, but I’m impressed by its feather growth! Is it pretty common for some chicks to have as much growth as this?

As for its coloring, do y’all think it’s a partridge? The woman who sold it to me was excited that it had hatched amongst the blacks and whites. Is that a common color?

Regarding sex, I know it’s really, really early… but any thoughts? This is not my first chick, but it is my first silkie.

Thanks very much!
Lauren

Yeah, I’m agreeing with all the above posters! Definitely partridge which is a recessive pattern from my understanding. The nice thing about partridge coloring is that it is more gender specific in its color arrangement. I believe the pullets will have rather diffuse coloring throughout, whereas the cockerels will have more patchy distribution of colors, with patches of orange on the wings :) I knew my little Silkie was a girl pretty early on (8 weeks or so) but I was guessing with my white one for many months! 😆 super cute little thing! 😍😍

X4 and I'ts too young to know the gender for sure but I'm thinking pullet because of the colouring

Thank you both so much for the helpful info! I knew before I even asked that guessing the gender was a long shot, but I had no idea that partridge silkies could be somewhat sexually dimorphic with their coloring. I can only have hens in my neighborhood, so there’s a lot at stake here! 😅 The seller happily agreed to take this sweet little bird back if it’s male, but I’d really hate to do that. Also interesting to know that partridge coloring is recessive.
