Hey guys, I’ve been raising chickens for a few months now, I know very little about how to raise them since there isn’t a farming community in my country and I know next to nothing about how their genetics work.

One of my white sizzle pullets should be coming to point of lay somewhere in the next 2 months

I was thinking to let my paint rooster have a go at mating with her.

What can I expect from the offsprings? Would I get the replicas of what I already have or would I possibly be getting a paint Silkie?

Ive read a little on the dominant white gene thing but not sure if I can understand it within this context. Any help would be appreciated

Thanks in advance!

Here are some pictures of my little chickens little Angel the sizzle and Snowball the paint Silkie rooster. 😊

First of all, I don't think your "sizzle" is a real sizzle. But I am sure that one of her parents was a silkie. So she carries the silkie feather gene, and is frizzled. I think she is recessive white, and that can hide all sorts of colors under it. When mixed with the paint silkie, the feather type could be the following (please note that all of these will still carry the silkie gene): Frizzles, sizzles, smooth, silkies. Now we go into color. I am not sure what your sizzle is hiding under her recessive white, but I am sure that what the paint has can dominate it. The paint is dominant white, and black (which is dominant). The paint mixed with the sizzle will probably give dominant whites, blacks, and more paints. Her Sizzle, is technically a frizzle, only carrying 1 copy of the Silkie feather gene, which just makes the feathers extra soft.

I know paint is Dominant White plus Black. I think mixing the paint, with the frizzle would probably only produce black, & white Frizzles, & Sizzles. Assuming the pullet is Recessive White, random color leakage maybe expected with the crossing since recessive white covers all colors, unlike dominant white which often leaks colors.
