I posted a few weeks ago about my chick with a slightly crooked beak. Now, it is completely crossed over, both top and bottom do not touch at all. She is not loosing weight, she is eating, but I noticed when feed them strips of onions that she is not able to eat these. I know she needs a deep food dish and water dish. I am sure the feeder we have is fine for her but does anyone know if the 5 gallon alluminum waterers are deep enough??? It is elevated about a foot off the ground with a little staircase made of bricks for the babies. Would someone give me some advice on very nutritious treats I can give her so that we can be sure that she is not missing out on nutrition. We give all of them whole grain oatmeal with all sort of nutritious berries and nuts, quinua, brown rice. And they also get very nutrious soup with beans, corn, tomatoes etc. and of course they have their chicken feed. Any suggestions would be great. If I do need to file the top beak down a little, when do I know when to do it? I would not attempt to trim it though. Thanks.

i can't really answer your questions but i can tell you that my buddy has a crooked-beak and she does just fine with 4 other normal-beaks, she's not at the bottom of the pecking order either. the only thing is that she has some trouble picking stuff up off of flat hard-packed ground but on looser dirt she is fine.

she drinks fine from both a double wall fount and a plastic one

they trim her beak when it looks excessive, he cut it to the quick last time but just a tiny drop of blood came out. i can ask him how, when, and why he does it.

good luck!

Yea, tonight I observed her eating her oatmeal and she was fine. Even ate with the big bullies and didn't get pecked. She is tough and very healthy, I just want to be extra careful so she does go downhill quickly.
