Sketchy Supplements?

Not an emergency.

I'm pretty frustrated about this situation.

I asked for a calcium supplement for the chickens, and which to get... (*edit to clarify. Calcium for emergencies. They have flaked oyster shell in a separate dish. And eggshells.)
They got these overpriced items instead.

Anyway. Can anybody tell me if there's anything beneficial to these things?

The bottle says essential oils, so I'm NEVER going to let that be around any of the animals. It's insane that it's even sold in stores.

I don't know if the bag is okay to even consider.

I'm having difficulty getting the person to return these (unopened)

Can you get basic calcium citrate from the grocery store?
Do they have flaked oyster shell?
Should have clarified. I just wanted calcium supplements for emergencies. Somebody offered to pick it up for me. Aaand they didn't...

The birds have free access to flaked oyster shell. Since their shells are so nice because of that, I also save their eggshells to give back to them so the oyster shell stretches.

Ok, so yes. Calcium citrate from the grocery store is what you want.

That's what I asked for when they offered (me paying, of course)
The store they were going to had a couple options that would work, so I showed them what I wanted.

If they had said they weren't going to pick it up, or that they were going to get these instead (from a completely different store), I would have declined.

Each item is over twenty dollars.
If directions are followed, the bottle would last a month. The bag, with the number of birds I have, would last a week...
(Well, half those numbers. Because I'm taking care of somebody else's flock who get half of everything.)

Cool.
Neither supplement is "sketchy" just not ideal for an emergency.

Hmm, depending on the situation, maybe you could let them think the calcium citrate is for you instead of for the chickens-- that would at least keep the person from buying other, expensive, things that are labeled for chickens. (Unless the person shopping is equally creative with requests for human supplements, in which case it would not do any good.)

Let's hope that the person who did the "favor" is not also employed as a personal shopper for other items!

This reminds me of the time I sent my husband out for kosher salt. He wound up at the hippie health food store and after a long discussion with an employee came home with coarse grain Celtic salt. He thought I would be so pleased. Until I said, “how am I supposed to clean the cast iron skillet with that?” 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️
