Just culled my first ever Rhode Island Red Roaster and the skin was white. I also culled an Australorp Roster and the RR had the same skin color. I bought the RR from Cackle Hatchery and was thinking maybe they sent me a production Red but they told me the skin for a production Red should also be yellow. Anyone know what’s up as I was told RR skin should be yellow?

Cackle Hatchery told you correctly; Rhode Island Reds like other American class breeds have yellow skin. English class breeds like Australorps have white skin.

Have you processed other yellow skinned birds? The yellow skin isn't yellow like their legs. I've processed lots of breeds, and thinking about it, I can't say that I've ever noticed "yellow" skin.

I bet the folks over in the Meat Birds ETC forum might have more insight for you.

yes I have- white and yellow some light yellow-and the skin on this RR was white-just trying to find out if their is a answer as to why-tks I wlil check that forun
