I recently ordered and received 11 chicks from McMurrays Hatchery. One died and I have 10 chicks now. One of my chicks has not feathered out yet anywhere near like the others. Do some breeds feather more slowly? I got the Rainbow Egg layers assortment and shared them with friend, so I have no idea what breed I might have. Here are 2 pics of Funky:

Here is Roxy, I also have no idea what breed she is but she is the same age as Funky and fully feathered.

any help would be greatly appreciated!

it must be some kind of feather deficiency due to inbreeding of the chickens

I would say that you need to feed it 2 biotin pills twice a day and see if it gets more feathers
it is a modifying gene like when a person breeds two fizzles together so long and the feather folicles don't come into the skin

I would make this
wet mash probiotic for the bird with vit's added

2 tbsp of dry chicken crumbles
3 tbsp of milk any kind
1 tbsp of yoguart
1 tbsp of apple sauce put on top after adding vitamins

now take the two biotin 500 mgs and cut the end off the csapsules and add the powder to the mix
also cut the tip off a 1000 mg of Vit E capsule and mix into the feed
now add apple sauce and feed this twice a day to the chick

it will help it to get more feather growth and possibly some more feathers
email me for any other questions

Thank you very much for this reply! I will definitely try this out. Do you think the feather follicles that aren't coming to the skin are causing itching or pain? This bird is one of my most active and curious. I was really hoping nothing was wrong!
