I made a trade today with some of my chickens and the woman I traded with brought a bb red chick in a box and said I could have him. She said she thinks he has worms so I went and bought some wormer. I have never had chickens with worms before but this chick can only be a week or two old he is so small. Anyways when I got him home and took him out of the box to look at him he is very very skinny and he is breathing really hard. Could this be because of the worms? He has been eating a lot since I put his food in.. any help would really be appreciated.

I also put some vitamins and electos in his water should I keep doing that? will it help.

As a caution i would keep him/her far from your other birds until you are certain this "free chick" is free from problems.... eating is a good sign. Maybe just a runt that couldn't get to the food.... good luck.

yes I have it on its on will deff. not take a chance I really hope he was just a runt thank you though.

Unsure on how to fix the problem but I think putting vitamins in their water is a good idea maybe talk to a vet as well I hope he/she gets better soon.

well he was not doing well at all this morning then around 12 he passed away poor little buggar

very sorry to hear that you lost the bird, my guess with its age would be coccidosis
was it ruffled/fluffed looking, kinda hunched?

worms are possible too

:hugs so sorry

his wings and beak looked way to big for his body and he was very skinny when I got him but he ate all the time once he got here yesterday until this morning then I realized he wasn't going to make it ... its sad because I was hoping I could save him

but I did also notice mites on him it shocked me because I have never dealt with mites in my chickens before
