Skinny chicken

My chickens were not being very cooperative today with picture taking. The top whitish hen is my Easter egger, Mary. She’s not laying yet and is a very small chicken. The middle picture is 5 of the 6. The Sussex I’m worried is too skinny, Helen, is the brown one closest to the tree. The bottom is the larger of the Speckled Sussex, Blanche, who lays when she feels like it. I couldn’t get Helen to stand still long enough to get a good picture. I’ll try again later.

They look fine to me too. You really can't rush laying or growing, it just happens when it happens. Sometimes you will have a bird with an internal genetic defect, that as the bird grows bigger, it begins to interfere. Sometimes a person will just go in in the morning to find the bird dead. But there is really not anything you can do about it. Don't worry about it.

You might not want to pick these birds' eggs as potential hatching birds, as age of laying and weight gain is heritable traits. But if you do, it is no big deal, it is not like the chicken police are going to do a raid!

Thanks for all the advice everyone! I put out another feeder today just incase some bullying is going on. They seem alert and active so they can’t be too hungry.
