This evening we heard some squawking in the henhouse after the girls had gone to bed. We ran out there and came face to face with a skunk. Yuck. After much squawking and flapping the squnk crawled back out of the coop through the hole it had dug, back under our fence through the hole it had dug, and ran away.
My girls seem pretty much fine, all three have blood on the same places on their combs, but it's not bad.
After we had moved them all inside and looked them over, I noticed that one of them had laid a late egg. Is that what the skunk was after, or did it have malevolent intentions toward one of my chickens?
We are moving the coop tomorrow, and I will fill in the hole under the fence, but will it be back? Our soil is so sandy it's super easy to dig in, I'm scared there's no safe place in our yard. What would you guys do? Making a permanent coop here isn't an option, so I'm not sure how best to protect my chickens. Thanks in advance for your advice.
Oh, and small miracle, no spray.
