Skunk Smell.....HELP!

We shot a skunk tonight...no choice but to do it in the chicken barn. Any ideas how to get the horrible stench out? It's SOOOO bad! This may sound dumb, but can the intense smell kill my birds? Because I feel like dying just smelling it.

Only thing I know that will kill the smell of skunk is tomato juice pour it in a sprayer and soak everything

I don't envy you, I encounter a skunk in my chook barn several times this winter/spring in the evenings. Nearly included it in my evening head count of my girls one time! Lol.
I did eventually have to shoot it too, but waited till it was outside the barn. Is there anyway you can leave all the doors open to air out? I don't know what the smell would do to your chickens, but there are products online that claim to neutralize the odor. Just be careful what you use, make sure its safe for chickens to breathe as well.
I also had one get under my house a few weeks ago, it let off a stink bomb at 2.30 am! Everytime the furnace kicked in, up thru the vents in every room! NASTY STUFF! Almost slept in my truck! Smell was pretty much gone within a day or two.
Now I play a battery operated radio every night in the barn, someone told me nocturnal predators do not like to come around where there are sounds of human voices, and so far so good!
Also stopped by a hunting/trapping store and got some fox pee, and I sprinkle a few drops of that around outside of the building for good measure, as I read online they won't hang out anywhere one of their predators might be.

white vinegar/ H20 in a spray bottle is better than tomato juice. it's the acidity that breaks down the oily spray, and vinegar is less likely to attract things like ants, etc.

I have had success washing the dog with blue Dawn, lemon juice, and vinegar. No stink at all. Tomatoe juice works too but stains.

Use hydrogen peroxide. The peroxide oxidizes the thiol (the stinky chemical) and will neutralize the odor.

The smell won't kill your birds. I would scrub any surface I could with a fresh mixture of peroxide, baking soda and dish soap, let sit, and then rinse. Fresh air and time will take care of the rest. Vinegar is no match for a direct hit on porous surfaces (like wood, for example) but it can give your nose a break from the skunk smell. Tomato juice just temporarily masks the odor.

I think I have a family of shunks under my shed which is about 20 feet from our coop. The shed smells really bad & we keep the feed there. Im worried about getting sprayed.
