Skunks!

Anyone else ever have a problem with skunks getting in the peafowl enclosure? I have a peahen and chick that I am trying to keep in there for another week or two before I let them free roam and this morning there were two skunks inside! We scared them out and obviously will need to reenforce where ever they got in. Any other pointers? I’m wondering if I need to be concerned about other predators getting in now.

I'm guessing that if skunks could get in so could raccoons and other predators.

Aaarrggghhh!! I hope they are gone! Bad enough to have predators but stinky ones at that, phew! Poor chickens! It's good they have humans to protect them, how did they ever survive in the wild? Everything wants them.

We have a local trapper that will come get them if we trap one. He collects the scent and tans the hides.

I love skunks, personally they are one of my favorite animals aside from cows and peacocks, probably why we have one as a house pet. They are great for ticks just like opossum, but skunks are one of the most common rabies carries. As much as I hate to say it I think trapping and removal is the best option. Skunks have some pretty serious nails on them and can dig better than a dog, so I’d recommend burying the fence a foot.

A skunk can fit through a very small opening.... they go right through chain link fences.
