Is there some recommendation for slaughtering chickens near other chickens? Not that I'm going to make the other birds watch but our property and set up make it more feasible to do it near the fenced in area. They do have a lot of area to roam so they don't have to be right there.
Thanks

I've heard that it's best to keep them seperate, that it keeps them calm, but personally, I wouldn't waste much time worrying about it. I know I'm not going to carry a chicken half way across the yard to keep the other ones calm. They get stirred up anyway while you're catching their friends.

Gee -- my little dinosaurs come to where I'm slaughtering and sit up on a sawhorse like it was bleachers...they don't seem to mind at all! Sometimes I don't even have to go look for the next one, just pick him out of the stands.

That is almost morbid to me ... but I understand completely. Mine follow me around like, "What 'cha doing? Can I help? I'll get in your way I promise!"

if the other chickens see the cull will it give them nightmares like slasher movies do to me?.. lol

Imp- When I squish bugs, the other bugs don't seem to mind. Is that kinda like the same thing?

I keep my chopping block close to the coop with all the hatchets and machete's stuck in it, just as a reminder to behave or else LOL. On a serious note I don't think they even know whats going on, so do it where it's convienant and makes sense.

It the catching that scare the other.

Do have a good story, when we first move here, My X was born and raised in the big city of Dayton Ohio.

So I raised turkey the first year free range, after butcher one for thankgiving. We set down for dinner with my free range turkey in the center, X had done a fine job cooking it.

Well the whole family setting at the table, ready to eat. Then my X said " i can eat this turkey" so I ask why see point behind me. there on the back deck are the other 2 turkey looking thru the french door watching us.
