sleeping in a tree

I have had these pea fowl for over 7 months now and every night they come back to the coop to sleep, but the last week the picked the huge oak tree in our front yard to sleep, one why would they just up and stop sleeping in coop and 2 should i leave them there or try and herd them back into the coop

Try to break the habit now. If you can get them down and back in the coop, do it. If you leave this one be, eventually it will call its friends over, and they will all be sleeping in your tree.

If it's getting warmer in your area, make sure the coop has good ventilation for warmer nights, so that they aren't looking for someplace cool to sleep.

if you let your peafowel out of the henhouse they will sooner or later pick them a nite roosting place an wont go back to the coop.the best thing todo is not let all of them out.that will keep the loose 1s close to the coop.

It all depends on if you are fine with them sleeping outside or not. Peafowl love big oak trees to roost in and it is fun to watch them fly down out of the tree early in the mooring. As long as the tree isn't too close to your property line (when I free-ranged the peafowl roosting oak was right on the line so some days they would fly down on the neighbor's side. Luckily the neighbor likes my peafowl).

If you want to keep them from roosting outside you might want to try herding them into the coop earlier than normal. Like maybe around 4:30 pm or around 4 you could herd them into the coop that way when it gets darker they won't be tempted to just fly up into the nearest tree. I think around 5 pm is when I start seeing the peafowl flapping their wings and winding down getting one more drink of water before picking a roost for the night.

I gave up trying to keep mine out of the trees and now all of them roost there, i figure they are safer there where they can get away than in a coop where something might scare them into breaking their necks jumping around in a coop trying to escape.
I have never lost one yet and they sleep in the trees next to my big barn.
Mine did move around a bit before they settled for those trees, they first roosted on the peek of the barn roof but found out it was slippery when it got wet, then they moved to a big pine in the pasture and i guess that was scare because they never did that again, then they went back to roosting on their old pen when i got new babies last year, now they are all loose together and stay in the trees by the barn.

I try to keep mine out of trees, but it's challenging. I live in northern MN, and we have owls who will take birds out of the trees late in the evening. I have lost two peafowl to owls.
