Sleeping in nest box!!!

I didn't put my nesting boxes in till they were 18 weeks old this past Friday. They were roosting fine on their roosting bars and I didn't have to teach them at all...they just hopped to the top one and that was it! I've 18 week old EE's!
I used red milk crates from Target with golf balls. I turned 2 on their side and 4 left upright to see which they prefer. I have been finding poo in the boxes...so I know they are getting in there...but NO eggs yet!
I'll post my pics as soon as it happens...you all know I'm checking every 1/2 hour now!

Too funny, I am doing the same thing... checking to see who is laying or even if they are... and I have 5 miles to cover... this is getting old... especially when I am not finding anything. We put up two new roosts for them and most of mine come out. I still have a couple that sleep inside... even my BIGGEST rooster... he is huge and he takes up one box for himslelf... and dont try to even pull him out. LOL... you will get hurt. So I told him fine... but the girls get it during the day, and honestly he keeps in clean LOL. just too funny. Anyways, at night you might want to try to take them outof the box and put them on the roosts. Worth a try anyways.

Good Luck

If they arent laying yet then close off or remove the nests and they will go to the roost bars at night. If they are laying, you will need to move them yourself until they get the idea or block the nests just at night. I always end up moving them because I dont get up early enough to unblock the nest box in the morning <<snore>>.
