Sleeping in nesting boxes

So we're having issues with our birds sleeping in their nesting boxes. How can I train my birds to stay on the roosts?
I need your tried and true methods! Our Silkie hen doesn't sleep in one just our Leghorns
The roosts are available but they're just not using them. Is there a way to make the roost preferred for sleeping and nest box for laying that I've missed?

More than likely the birds view the nest boxes as a safer place to sleep. I have always tried to keep my roosts 10"-12" above my nest boxes.

Ah. Good to know. We are working on revamping our coop anyway so that works. I will try that then.
